Tony Pulis odds among next Swansea manager tips
FootieLive’s next Swansea manager tips highlight Tony Pulis odds at the head of the betting with Paul Clement under mounting pressure.
Swansea City prop up the Premier League after just one win in nine matches going into the busy festive period.
BetVictor make the Swans 6/5 favourites to be bottom at Christmas and odds-on at 2/7 for the drop.
Head coach Paul Clement, who is fancied in the next manager to go market, stressed that a 4-0 home defeat by leaders Manchester City “won’t define our season”.
The Swansea hierarchy changed bosses twice last season and preserved their top-flight status.
Now they may decide to do so again with Welsh candidates fancied in the Swans’ market.
So, who are they? Our next Swansea manager tips has more…
Pulis odds prominent in betting
Given the Swans are in a relegation battle, then the perfect candidate to take over is surely Tony Pulis.
He has always kept his teams up, establishing Stoke City in the Premier League before rescuing Crystal Palace and West Bromwich Albion.
The latter sacked Pulis after almost three years in charge in November.
As a South Wales native hailing from Newport, he could strike a chord with Swansea supporters.
Pulis teams are defensively disciplined and organised which helps in a dogfight.
He made the Britannia Stadium a fortress during his Potters tenure, so would need to do likewise when teams visit the Swans at the Liberty.
Paddy Power quote Pulis odds of even-money to succeed Clement.
Ryan Giggs a risky gamble
Another Welshman linked with Swansea is Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs.
The former winger spent time in caretaker charge at Old Trafford following the dismissal of David Moyes.
Giggs was also retained on the Red Devils’ coaching staff by Louis van Gaal, but left when Jose Mourinho came in.
Given his limited experience of management and the current situation the Swans are in, appointing Giggs is a big gamble.
There are risks attached to any change of coach, but having played under Sir Alex Ferguson he may be a better fit style-wise for Swansea.
While Pulis teams grind results out, a succession of managers at the Liberty have played attractive football based on passing and width.
Clement’s midfield diamond is a bit of a departure from this, so Giggs is a 100/30 chance to take over.
Foneseca leads foreign options
The Swans don’t always go British when they’re looking for a new boss, though.
Roberto Martinez (Spain), Paulo Sousa (Portugal), Michael Laudrup (Denmark), Francesco Guidolin (Italy) and Bob Bradley (USA) are all foreign coaches that had spells in charge during the last decade.
Going down this foreign route again if Clement is sacked cannot be ruled out.
Mozambique-born Portuguese coach Paulo Fonescea, currently at Ukrainian side Shakhar Donetsk, is next behind Pulis odds and Giggs in the betting at 13/1.
Why he would swap a Champions League club for a relegation battle in Britain remains to be seen.
Fonseca had tentative links to the Everton job before Sam Allardyce replaced Ronald Koeman, so he seems open to a Premier League role.
Koeman (17/1) is an out-of-work boss with plenty of coaching experience in England.
